Get to Know Pickleball

Pickleball is a hybrid of tennis, badminton and table tennis, played on a court a quarter the size of a tennis court. The smaller area is perfect for seniors who want to stay active but is much easier on the joints and lungs than tennis. It’s an easy sport for novices to pick up, a lot of fun and a very social game because you’re in a small area with a lot of interaction. Pickleball also can be challenging, requiring quick reactions as players trade rapid-fire shots at the net. A two-day Pickleball class will be given on Tuesday & Thursday, December 10th and December 12th from 12:00-2:00pm, on the Pickleball courts. You should plan to attend both classes as the material is different each day. You will learn the rules, basic shots, and basic strategy of the game. Paddles and balls will be provided. You should wear court shoes and bring a hat or visor, sun glasses, and drinking water. A sign-up sheet is on the activities board in the clubhouse. Sign-up deadline is December 9th. The classes are free to members of the Pickleball Club. If you are not currently a member of the Club, annual dues are $5 per year. These classes are for new and experienced players so even if you already play you should benefit from these classes. After the classes we will pair the new players with players who prefer to play a gentler game until they get some experience. While you will not be immediately thrown in with more advanced players, you will be able to join in with them whenever you feel you are ready. This is not just a guy thing as about half of our club members are women, so ladies come on out. If you have any questions, please call or email John Janes at 309-224-9622 or johnjanes48@gmail.com.
