Free Tour of the San Xavier Mining Laboratory

The San Xavier Underground Mining Laboratory has been operated by the Department of Mining and Geological Engineering since 1958 and owned since 1975. It is the only mining laboratory with a working vertical shaft in the US. They are a unique teaching and research facility; used as a training resource safety, and mine rescue by federal and state agencies, as well as organizations devoted to underground research and tunnel safety, and mine rescue.
Resident Frank Young has made arrangements with the Laboratory Staff to conduct a free tour. It’s a two hour tour. Participants will caravan from the clubhouse at 9am, sign-up deadline is November 3rd. Please wear long trousers/slacks and closed toe shoes are required. Bring a bottle of water and your camera is welcome. This is not a strenuous tour, just a lot of walking. The staff will provide safety gear. Sign-up in the lobby by Nov. 1st.
